Needle Exchange Programs Fighting Spread of HIV and Hepatitis C

Needle exchange programs allow intravenous drug users to trade in used needles for sterile ones, and are designed to reduce the spread of HIV and hepatitis C among drug users. They are also an effective way to present addicts with information about drug treatment programs and other social services. Joining us to discuss needle exchange programs are University of Cincinnati College of Medicine Associate Chair for Faculty Development and Professor of Medicine, Dr. Judith Feinberg ; Project Manager for the Cincinnati Exchange Project , Libby Harrison ; and Northern Kentucky Health Department Director of Clinical Services, Jennifer Hunter. December 1 is World Aids Day , an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died.
